Examination and consultation

There will be an initial consultation with Dr. Andrew Sih, the Principal Dentist at Bondi Dental who will examine your overall health and oral conditions, discuss with you your needs and requirements  Your mouths overall aesthetic and functionality is of paramount importance when performing any dental implant procedure but equally so are any medical restrictions in certain patients.   X-rays and study models will be taken.

Dr. Andrew Sih will further discuss with Dr. Terry Yuen, an Implant Specialist and oral surgeon from Adelaide, the best treatment options that is tailored for your needs.   You will then have a second consultation with Dr. Terry Yuen for further examination and to make sure you fully understand are comfortable with the treatment options.

Surgical Procedures

Once the treatment plan is finalized and agreed upon, Dr. Andrew Sih will arrange the following surgical procedures.

There are two stages in the surgical procedures:

  1. This is when Dr. Terry Yuen places the dental implant (artificial tooth roots) surgically into the patient’s jaw bone. The healing process will take about 4-6 months for the jaw bone to integrate with the dental implant – this healing process will allow the dental implant to be strongly fixed in place, just like the roots of a natural permanent tooth.  Once in the jaw, it will usually take between 4 to 6 months to allow the bone to bind onto the implant(s) – integration. At this stage, if required, temporary crowns or bridges will be placed to provide functionality and respectable look of the mouth.

This surgical procedure is done under local anaesthetics at our modern and well equipped dental centre at Bondi.  You will not feel any painduring the procedure.  For nervous patients, a mild tranquillizer, Valium, will be prescribed before the start of the procedure to help patients relax.

  1. After the dental implant has fused in place, in the second dental appointment Dr. Terry Yuen will expose the implant screws. Molds will be taken by Dr. Andrew Sih.

Dental Prosthesis

One week later, the dental prosthesis – a crown or a bridge, depending on the number of missing tooth/teeth will be placed by Dr. Andrew Sih.

At this stage all implant procedures are complete and you will walk out of Bondi Dental with a new look, and a happy smile!

If you have missing teeth and would like to restore your smile and chewing functions with dental implants, let Dr. Andrew Sih and Dr. Terry Yuen take care of you.
